#4 Smith-Walker- Giddens House – This pyramidal roofed vernacular cottage of the late Victorian period was saved from demolition by Elaine and Bill Giddens. Elaine is the fourth generation of her family to live in the house. Condemned by the city, the house was lovingly renovated and restored by the couple, a project taking fourteen months to complete. The deep wrap-around porch provides a welcoming transition to the serenity of the symmetrical interior. Some original wood trim features remain in the front part of the house where minimal changes were made. The back section was modernized to meet the needs of the family.
