The Old Jail

Built in 1891, this Victorian home once served as the county jail. The sheriff and his family lived in the front portion of the building while the prisoners were kept in back. This building has been known for visits from Essie, the ghost of a sheriff’s daughter who died in the house at a young age. 

The Genealogy Research Center at the Old Jail Museum

Today, this residence is home to Washington County’s Genealogy Research Center. Visitors can learn more about their ancestors and peruse  important Washington County historical documents. Additionally, guests may tour the home and the old jail.
